Ask Simone Crestani and he will tell you he is an artisan before an artist. That’s because he places technique and craftsmanship above all else, considering himself a medium through which glass can express itself. Finding beauty and poetry in shapes, Simone fabricates fragile, delicate, unexpected forms—from a wine glass entangled by an octopus, to bottles stopped with striking antlers, and a fanciful decanter that resembles a whimsical bird. Glass chose him, he says, and having the control of technique has allowed him to use it as medium to develop his thoughts. Portrait by Alberto Parise.
